Highlights from the Golden Age of Wilton Cake Decorating Part 1
When I was a child my mother’s 1970’s Wilton Cake decorating catalogs were my porn. I’ve since rebuilt my collection via ebay. The cakes were delicious, I’m sure - but the design, I could savor it for days.

Dang. Standards are so much lower now. They just seem to have these flat cakes in the shape of things that you decorate with blobs of different color icing using a star tip. Cake decorating for hopeless losers.
The ones in your post - now THOSE are art!!

Oh Justin,
this is so marvellous to see!
So much better than the latest years of fondant..
Not as if anything is wrong with fondant,
but you can’t compare apples to strawberrys..
Love, yours

What an impressive assortment. The tea set is so challenging and pleasing to the eye I can’t imagine guests would eat it. You should try to recreate some of these cakes with plaster of paris like the fake cakes Amy Sedaris has instructions for in her entertaining book.
