Dis-Shirts: Strong Emotions Cost More

Friday, April 21st, 2006

I’ve been making my intentionally ambiguous “Disappointed” shirts for some years now, then today I spotted a surprisingly similar Keanan Duffty shirt displaying a more aggressive sentiment: a grenade flying towards the Magic Kingdom with the word Destroy rendered above. Issues of unoriginality aside, the Destroy shirt will run you $80 but my more elegant and less angry JustinSpace label “Disappointed” shirt is only $20 ($22 with shipping).

Fight Club Author, Chuck Palahniuk, Disappointed

From the Kansas City Star last week:

“You have no idea what it is like to constantly disappoint people. You see it the moment you meet them. You see in their eyes that they expected something so entirely different, and here they are meeting you.”

Chuck Palahniuk chuckles as he says this, steering his pickup down Highway 14 just on the Washington side of the Columbia River. He’s saying you can’t judge an author by his books.

Come to think of it, he’s wearing a black T-shirt that says “Disappointed” in Disney-style script.

Palahniuk (pronounced “paula-nick”) loves the irony of this…

That would be my Disappointed shirt. I gave Chuck one last year after he complimented me on mine at a “Haunted” reading.

Recent Reasons to Love Viktor and Rolf

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2005

One: The first Viktor and Rolf: boutique, located in Milan, features an entirely up-side-down interior. I say put in a bar and serve conceptual cocktails like "Mud In Your Eye" and "Shitface" and lets dance on the ceiling.

Two: Their first fragrance is named Flowerbomb, has it’s own song, and comes in a bottle shaped like a grenade. Fuck terrorism smell my flowerbomb!
